In an email to colleagues, Calhoun stated it was 'only right that he fill in the blanks' on the matter.
The former council member says 'It's been a difficult period' for him and his family.
Brian Calhoun has already pleaded 'not guilty' to a charge of misdemeanor battery.
It was on March 22nd that police say he got into a fight with a 19 year old female student.
Calhoun sent an email to colleagues saying, "I felt wronged and chose a jury trial that will take place in September. The student also sued me in civil court on charges as long as your arm."
Roger Nuttall is Calhoun's attorney...
He says Calhoun tripped over his briefcase and the altercation followed.
"She slugged him in the face, broke his glasses and broke one of his teeth."
Calhoun believes he was fired over the incident.
In his email, he stated he received no support from City College or the State Center District.
He also wrote, "It took FCC and SCCCD only 47 days to fire me, probably a record for a tenured instructor."
Fresno City College administrators are not commenting because it's a personnel matter.
Nuttall believes the student showed a lack of respect...
Regardless, he says Calhoun never tried to hurt her.
"He did try to get her attention and to that extent, did touch her."
Calhoun hopes to return to the classroom soon...
His attorney says he should be preparing for the coming semester at City College.
"He is in the sunset of his career and this is a hell of a way to have to go out."
In his email, Calhoun says "My student evaluations over almost two decades of teaching at FCC and 15 years at community colleges in Illinois and Wisconsin are exemplary. I miss my students and they miss me."
The attorney for the student in this case was not immediately available for comment.
Brian Calhoun is expected back in court in early September.
