"Judge Joe Brown," the second highest-rated court show in television syndication after "Judge Judy," has been canceled by CBS Television Distribution.
Judge Joe Brown wins ruling in his own lawsuit
?We would like to thank Joe for 15 great years,? CTD said in a statement, ?as well as executive producer John Terenzio and the entire staff for all their hard work and dedication to the show."
The cancellation comes after negotiations on a new contract broke down, apparently over Brown?s salary. He reportedly has been making $20 million a year, but CTD was looking to trim his compensation in line with a decline in his ratings.
In the recent February sweeps, "Judge Brown" had a 2.5 household rating, down 17 percent from the prior February. He attracted an average of 3.4 million daily viewers, down from an average of 4.1 million last February. In the key demographic for a daytime show, which is women 25-54, Brown had a 1.1 rating, down 15 percent from a year earlier.
The most recent week for national ratings, reported Tuesday, had "Judge Brown" pulling a 2.1 household rating, down 16 percent from the prior week and 19 percent from the same week a year ago.
To be fair, all of the court shows have seen declines of as much as 20 percent this season -- with the exception of "Judge Judy" who remains number one by a wide margin. She averaged a 7.5 household rating in February, about 10.5 million viewers a day.
"Judge Brown" has been second to "Judge Judy" in the ratings for the past 739 weeks, and both are distributed by CTD. But the decline in his ratings have hurt what they can charge for advertising, so CTD wanted to pare his salary, says sources.
"Judge Brown" plays on the Fox owned TV stations in many major markets and on stations owned by Sinclair, Lin and others. CTD had discussions with Fox about replacing "Judge Brown" with a new show that would be fronted by Indiana Judge Geoffrey Gaither, but Fox declined to make the swap.
At this point, "Judge Brown" is scheduled to run in original and repeat episodes on the Fox owned stations until September, when they will have the opportunity to reprogram his time periods.
"Judge Brown" may not be done yet. He has met with Byron Allen of Entertainment Studios about continuing his show. Allen?s Entertainment Studios has a line up of court shows that includes "America?s Court with Judge Ross," "We The People With Gloria Allred" and "Justice for All with Judge Christna Perez." Allen?s shows play in syndication first and then play on a company owned digital cable channel. However, it appears unlikely Entertainment Studios could pay as much as Brown has been getting under his CTD pact, according to a source.
"Judge Brown first" went on the air in 1998. Before that, he was a real life criminal courts judge in Shelby County, Tennessee. He started his career as a lawyer and was the first African American prosecutor in Memphis, Tennessee earlier in his career.
Brown won fame when as the real judge in Shelby County, Tennessee, he presided over the appeal of James Earl Ray, who murdered Martin Luther King Jr. Brown was later removed from that case over charges of bias but by then he had caught the eye of the same producers and distributors behind "Judge Judy."
Both Judge Brown and Judge Judy are produced in the same Hollywood facility, with courtrooms adjacent to each other. Both are produced by Big Ticket Television, a division of CBS, and distributed by CBS?s CTD.
Brown wasn?t the first African American to be a TV judge but he has become the longest running.

NEWTOWN, Conn.?Police investigating the school massacre here seized a small arsenal of firearms, knives and swords along with medical records and computer equipment from the 20-year-old gunman's home in the days after the shooting, court documents released Thursday reveal.
Also Thursday, the state prosecutor overseeing the case said that Adam Lanza killed 26 people within five minutes of storming into Sandy Hook Elementary School before turning a gun on himself.
The documents?85 pages of affidavits and search warrants that include a list of items seized from the car and Newtown home Lanza shared with his mother, Nancy?paint a chilling picture of a killer who had been stockpiling weapons in the weeks and months leading up to the Dec. 14 massacre.
Lanza shot and killed his mother at their home before driving to the school, where he forced his way in and opened fire.
State Attorney Stephen J. Sedensky III said in a statement that Lanza killed all 26 victims with a Bushmaster .223-caliber model XM15 rifle before taking his own life with a Glock 10 mm handgun. Lanza also had a loaded 9mm Sig Sauer P226 handgun with him inside the school, Sedensky said, as well as three, 30-round magazines for the Bushmaster. One-hundred-and-fifty-four bullet casings were recovered at the scene.
According to the unsealed documents, investigators found an empty box for "Battle Tested" vest accessories and hundreds of rounds of various gun ammunition inside the two-story Lanza home.
Among the other items seized by police:
Item #71 - Reciepts and emails documenting firearm/ammunition and shooting supplies. Item #77 - Blue folder labeled "Guns" containing receipts, paperwork and other firearm-related paperwork. Item #81 - Paperwork titled, "Conncticut Gun Exchange, Glock 20SF 10mm FS 15 round FC," dated 12/21/11 Item #83 - Email re: Gunbroker.com dated 10-12-11. Item #85 - Printed photographs, miscellaneous handwritten papers, and Sandy Hook report card for Adam Lanza Item #86 - "Look Me in the Eye?My life with Asbergers" book, "Born on a Blue day?Inside the Mind of an Autistic Savant" book, "NRA Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting" book.
Exhibit # 605 - One (1) receipt for Timstar Shooting Range located in Weatherford, Ok and one (1) NRA certificate for Nancy Lanza.
Exhibit #606 - One (1) Paperback book titled "Train Your Brain To Get Happy," with pages tabbed off.
Exhibit #608 - Three (3) photographs with images of what appears to be a deceased human covered in plastic and what appears to be blood.
Exhibit #609 - Seven (7) journals and miscellaneous drawings authored by Adam Lanza.
Exhibit #612 - One (1) holiday card containing a Bank of America check #462 made out to Adam Lanza for the purchase of a C183 (Firearm), authored by Nancy Lanza.
Exhibit #630 - One (1) New York Times article on 02/18/08 of a school shooting at Northern Illinois University.
In addition to several guns inside the home, police also recovered three Samurai swords and a long pole with a blade on one side and a spear on the other. Inside the car Lanza drove to the school, police recovered a 12-gauge shotgun and two magazines containing 70 rounds of ammunition, the documents show.

According to the search warrant, when officers arrived at the school, they discovered Lanza "dressed in military style clothing, wearing a bullet proof vest lying deceased on the floor in the middle classroom." He "was in possession of several handguns as well as a military style assault weapon."
When police arrived at the Lanza home, they found Nancy Lanza "lying in supine position on a bed in the 2nd floor master bedroom" with an apparent gunshot wound to the head. Investigators located a rifle "on the floor near the bed."
On Dec. 14, according to a warrant released Thursay, FBI agents interviewed an unidentified resident who described Lanza as a "shut in" and "avid gamer who plays Call of Duty" and rarely leaves the house. The witness said Lanza had a "gun safe containing at least four guns." Lanza had attended Sandy Hook Elementary School, the person told the FBI, and "that the school was Adam Lanza's 'life.'"

Superior Court Judge John Blawie ordered parts of the documents redacted after state prosecutors requested that the identity of a key witness not be revealed for another 90 days. The judge also approved blacking out some phone numbers, credit card numbers and the serial numbers of some property confiscated from the Lanza home.
Connecticut State Police briefed family members of the Newtown shooting victims on Wednesday on what was recovered inside Lanza's home and car. About 50 family members attended the briefing, according to the Connecticut Post.
Thursday's release came after state lawmakers, media and Newtown residents criticized police officials for leaking details of their investigation at a convention of police chiefs in New Orleans, which were then published by the New York Daily News.

"If state police officers can leak details of the Newtown investigation at conventions, surely that information can be shared with the Connecticut public," the Hartford Courant said in an editorial. "It has more of a right to know than out-of-state police chiefs do. ... This isn't information to be hoarded and shared only at the state police water cooler. The longer information is kept under wraps, the more questions there will be about why. Most important, the details will inform the debate about gun control, mental health and violence in society. There's no reason to fear an informed public."
Connecticut's General Assembly has been considering gun-control legislation in the wake of the Newtown shootings, including a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines. State lawmakers said on Monday they would delay a vote on gun control until after search warrants related to the school shootings were unsealed.
The final police report on the massacre is not expected to be released until June.

China's Prime Minister Li Keqiang addressed the foreign and domestic press for the first time today in an event carried live on national TV.

China is unlike any other country in the world when it comes to press conferences: You generally learn more from the questions that are asked than from the answers that officials give.

That rule of thumb proved valid again Sunday as new Prime Minister Li Keqiang met the press for the first time. He seemed confident and relaxed, but like his predecessors, he answered only questions that journalists had submitted in advance, and that his press office had approved.
At Chinese press conferences you learn which topics the government thinks are important and what message it wants to transmit to the citizenry from the questions that the authorities allow. But you don?t get much fresh information from the answers.
Mr. Li?s responses were, for the most part, pretty bland. We did not learn much that we had not already known before we filed into the elaborately decorated ballroom in the Great Hall of the People on Tiananmen Square for the premier?s annual press conference carried live on national TV.
But a softball question from People's Daily, the official organ of the ruling Communist party, ("What are the government?s goals and the top priorities on its agenda?") allowed Li to stress his intention of raising incomes and strengthening the social security net ? a major worry for many Chinese ? and of making China a fairer country.
That will have gone down well with the hundreds of millions of citizens who have learned from experience that you don?t get far in this country without the right connections.
The Chinese state radio correspondent tossed him a question about the government?s plans to combat official corruption, another huge gripe among ordinary Chinese, which gave the new prime minister a chance to pledge his ?unshakeable resolve? to root out dishonesty in government.
Overseas reporters had a chance to put their questions, too ? an American was permitted a carefully worded query about US-China relations, including a reference to US allegations that the Chinese government is behind a lot of cyber-espionage; a Frenchman was allowed to ask about the foul air we have been breathing in Beijing for the past 10 weeks; a Russian asked about the future of Sino-Russian relations.
None of them elicited anything that could be mistaken for news, however. He batted away the question of hacking with the standard line that China too is a victim of hackers, and complained ? with a smile ? that he detected ?a presumption of guilt? in the reporter?s question that he did not accept.
The authorities were especially nervous on Sunday about what foreign reporters might ask because the press conference was being broadcast live on television, and they did not want any embarrassments.
Having attended six of these annual charades, and knowing how they work, it still astonishes me that the leader of a country such as China, which aspires to a serious place at the top table of world affairs, does not dare to take unscripted questions from journalists. Li talked a lot about reform this morning; he could do worse than start with the way the government relates to the local and foreign press.?

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) ? The Tampa Bay Lightning fired coach Guy Boucher on Sunday.
Assistants Martin Raymond and Dan Lacroix will share coaching responsibilities for Sunday night's game at Winnipeg.
"Guy has poured his heart and soul into the Lightning organization for these past three years and we appreciate all the work he has done," general manager Steve Yzerman said in a statement. "But ultimately I am not satisfied with the direction we are heading and I believe making a change today is in the best interest of our franchise."
Tampa Bay is next to last in the Eastern Conference with a 13-17-1 record. Boucher was hired as the Lightning's seventh coach on June 10, 2010.
Boucher's dismissal came one day after the Lightning fell behind by four goals in the first period of a 5-3 loss at Ottawa.
The Lightning appear headed toward missing the playoffs for the second consecutive season after reaching the Eastern Conference finals during Boucher's first year.
Tampa Bay entered this season with postseason aspirations after adding goalie Anders Lindback and defensemen Sami Salo and Matt Carle. Lindback and team captain Vincent Lecavalier have been among the players sidelined by injuries.

Suppose you purchase a web hosting service with a complicated, unfriendly control panel. If you need to fix a problem on your website, you might not be able to figure out which controls you need to access or where on the panel they're located. Then what? Nowadays, many people build their own websites while taking advantage of the easy to use tools that good web hosts have to offer. If you read this article fully, you will gain some knowledge about choices you should consider when signing with a web host.
You should select a web host that offers you a detailed report on your web traffic statistics. Add an outside visitor counter, and check the numbers this gives you with the numbers put out by the web host. You can benefit greatly from this information as a business owner, because it allows you to adjust your approach and tweak your site to maximize traffic.
Check around to see what the past and present customers of your potential web hosts are saying. These channels are helpful for finding honest, unbiased reviews and feedback that can make your decision much easier. After reading the discussions you find in these places, you will most likely find your confidence towards a company is much higher. There's nothing like picking the brains of current customers for useful information about a company.
When choosing a web host, use monthly payments instead of lump-time payments. You never know what could come up in the next 12 months, and you do not want to be locked in with one company. If your host goes out of business or if your company outgrows them, you could lose any hosting payments you've made.
Check on whether or not your web host offers some sort of money back guarantee. Canceling your service should be your right if you aren't satisfied with what you signed up for within 30 days. Be sure to read the fine print and speak with other users to be sure the company is true to their word.
Solid web hosts will have impressive reputations. After reading a bunch of reviews, you can get a feel for the best hosting companies in the industry and get more comfortable in your decision. Companies that don't provide good service should be identifiable online based on reviews.
You should know the maintenance schedule of your web hosting company. Maintenance should happen at least once a month and in the wee hours of the morning. If you choose the web host this will put a limit on any down time you will have on your business.
When you are about to purchase your web hosting services, use a payment provider that is well-known. If you charge costs to your credit card or use PayPal, you are afforded extra protection from fraud. PayPal also offers security features that ensure that web hosting providers are unable to initiate payment without your permission.
When considering a web host, look to see if they offer money back guarantees. If you find the hosting service isn't right for you within the first 30 days after ordering it, you should be able to cancel it and get a full refund. This is because although a web host may advertise certain things, the things they advertise may not be true.
When selecting a web hosting solution, you should opt for a company that has web servers located geographically close to your targeted traffic. If you are targeting people in the United Kingdom, be sure your web hosting plan is with a provider that has their data center located in the United Kingdom, too.
When selecting a web hosting service, opt for the provider that has a favorable track record for outages and downtime. Choose a provider who has specific plans for dealing with an outage and one who does not shirk the blame onto someone else. Constant outages show that they're unprofessional, so don't join one of these.
Put effort into researching web hosts, and choose one with minimal downtime to ensure that your site will almost always be up and functioning. Anytime your website is compromised, you are losing business.
Stay tuned in to a general web hosting forum, so that you can find out about site outages as soon as they occur. If many web hosts are down, you know the problem is not isolated to your particular provider, and the problem is being addressed with urgency. If the host is down over 24 hours, stay active on that forum to see why and to draw attention to the issue.
Look for a web hosting that has won lots of awards. You can tell whether or not their service is up to snuff. While these awards are sometimes fictitious, most sites use legitimate ones that are achieved through the site's users casting a vote for that site to win. Hosts that have several of these awards are probably companies with whom it is worth doing business.
A cPanel can be beneficial, ask your web host if they provide it. A cPanel enables you to use popular applications in your website easily. Applications, such as these, are incredibly easy to install and make the perfect middle man for management between you and your hosted files. This will make running your site easy and efficient.
Hopefully, the advice in this article has helped you get a better understanding of the attributes of web hosting, as well as, how you go about choosing a hosting service. Continue using the tips above so that you can get a good web host.
